Day 10 - Haast to Makarora

This was supposed to be a fairly short day that ended up shorted than I intended.
We had a late breakfast (8ish) and a later start but the total was only 82Ks so how hard could it be? OK, Haast Pass was coming up after 50Ks or so but still...
To begin with everything was fine. Good road, good riding, lovely scenery as I rode up the Haast River valley (you don't often see a four lane river). Thunder Falls were pretty.
Then the weather started to go bad, and got really bad as I began the major climb.
I can handle hills, headwinds, rain, and cold.
Just not all of them at once. :(
Justin picked me up as I crawled past the Gates of Haast (which really should be called the Gates of Hell given the climb that follows) and I rode in the van to Makarora from there.
The not particularly impressive stats:
Hopefully I'll do better tomorrow.
