Day 11 - Makarora to Wanaka

arcadiagt5There was fresh snow down to about 700M on the nearby peaks, and today's ride could have been huge fun riding past spectacular lakes on curvy undulating roads for about 64Ks.
Currently having the photos I've taken to date burnt to a DVD-ROM by a photo shop, that way I'll still have two copies (laptop and DVD) when I start wiping the memory cards to make more room. Yes, I have two 1GB cards. And, yes, I'm down to less than half of one card available....
However, it was raining from the start and the cloud cover was coming down low.
The 1st 16Ks was OK, fairly fun in fact, but then the scenery disappeared into the mist.
And then the headwinds and the cold joined the increasingly heavy rain and occasional sleet.
Suddenly the ride just wasn't fun anymore (but thats about what it takes to stop the ride being fun) and I happily accepted Justin's offer of a pick up and ride to Wanaka after only 25Ks.
The even less impressive stats:
