PSA: Chronos Awards Nominators Can Come From Anywhere

Only the nominees have to be Victorian. Nominations will be accepted  from "...from natural persons active in fandom, or from full or supporting members of the event hosting the award."

BTW this isn't a bug in the rules, it is a feature. :)

Oh, and if anyone from Canberra is at Conjecture could you pick up my conbook etc - I had to work this weekend and couldn't get there.

I have to admit, my first thought was whether Jules Verne would be eligible, or if H.G. Wells would be the obvious choice fro a Victorian SF award...

I have to wonder how many times we'll get that joke or something like it.

But to avoid it we'd have to say "residents of Victoria, Australia" all the time and that would just be too awkward for words.

On a vaguely serious note, do the retro-Hugos go back that far?

I never stop to look at where an author is from when I'm reading a book. The only author I read regularly that I'm pretty sure is Victorian is Kerry Greenwood, because her mysteries are all set in Melbourne.

No. Retro-Hugos will not go back beyond the first Worldcon, so 1939 would be the earliest possible retro-Hugos.

Just as a bit of background, the Chronos Awards were inspired by the Western Australian equivalent known as the Tin Ducks (which have been running successfully for many years now at SwanCon).

Dalekboy and I don't know if the Chronos Awards will be as successful but we can hope.

There may be three issues with that last request. Not only the obvious ones of whether there are any Canberra fans here and whether they are reading LJ while here, but also that the con book hasn't arrived yet.

Small, friendly con with some interesting guests. The programming is a bit thin and there's no fallback activity (gaming/video/etc) programming at all. The children's programming is apparently very good.
