...it probably isn't. :(

There has been a delay delivering the new frame. Which means that the rebuild won't happen whilst I'm in Perth, and possibly not for another week.

A picture showing why the frame is being replaced is beneath the cut...

EDIT: A picture of the replacement is beneath the new cut.

Its certainly not something you see every day in chromoly...

Having said that, its taken 10,000Ks and a year and a half of hard use for this to develop to this point. And the trike is still safely rideable in this condition.

Oh, and GreenSpeed have honoured the 10-year Warranty on the frame so all things considered I'm quite happy.

looks like it would be relatievely easy to repair with the right equipment. To my eye's it looks like the weld is cracking rather than the parent metal. Someone should be able to grind the crack out and reweld it to make it as good or better than new.

Possibly but that someone wouldn't be me. :)

I will note that Greenspeed didn't think it was repairable when they saw it - this photo was taken by Fuse Recumbents and sent to them for their opinion.

I would guess that they have a few reasons for that decision. And the biggest reason is that they want to protect their reputation. While a repair would probably be cheaper, it also wouldn't look as good, and may take longer than a direct replacement. There are also some liability concerns if the repaired frame broke. It is definitely good that they stand behind their products though.

Absolutely! As I mentioned above, apart from the delay, I'm quite happy with how things are panning out and very happy to see Greenspeed's excellent reputation for customer service confirmed.

And it gets better - the frame was delivered before Michael could return the trike to me anyway. :)
